Newborn vaccination: doses and timing
BCG, hepatitis B birth dose and oral polio zero dose are the key birth vaccines in India. Hepatitis B should be given within 24 hours. Confirm what was administered before discharge.
Before leaving the maternity hospital
Ask the discharge team to document each birth vaccine, the date, batch details and the next appointment. BCG, oral polio and hepatitis B are different products and protect against different infections; one does not replace another. Keep the discharge summary with the vaccination card.
If a birth vaccine was missed
Contact the maternity team or paediatrician promptly. Timing and eligibility differ by vaccine, and a late dose should be planned from the record rather than treated as an on-time birth dose. Babies born to a mother with hepatitis B need urgent clinician-directed prevention; an online booking form is not a substitute for that assessment.
Planning a newborn home visit
Share gestational age, birth weight, discharge advice and any illness with the treating clinician. Premature or medically unwell babies may need an individual plan or facility-based care. The catalog may not list every birth vaccine: if BCG is absent, contact the team or your birth facility rather than selecting a different vaccine.
Planning a home vaccination visit in Sector 104
Include the sector, block or society, tower and flat. For Expressway apartments, add the correct society gate. Sector 137 and other postal boundary areas should be checked using the society’s official PIN.
For your Sector 104 address, use the vaccination recipient’s PIN, not a nearby hospital, office or landmark. Have the previous vaccination card ready, including doses from government facilities and private clinics. The team checks stock, visit charges and appointment timing before confirming.
Vaccine prices and the home-visit fee
Baby vaccination cost depends on the prescribed doses and brands. Compare current catalog prices, then review the separate visit fee returned for your PIN. A 6-in-1 combination, pneumococcal vaccine and rotavirus vaccine cover different components; ask your paediatrician which are due. A listed brand is not confirmation that it is suitable for your child.
