A travel polio vaccine helps protect international travellers against poliovirus. Whether you need IPV, OPV, a booster or a recent vaccination certificate depends on your vaccination history, itinerary and official travel rules. VacciHub helps travellers in Delhi NCR enquire, check the live catalogue price and book an appointment after clinical assessment.

Polio is a viral infection that can affect the nervous system and cause permanent paralysis. It spreads mainly through the faecal–oral route, including contaminated food or water. Although children are especially vulnerable, an unvaccinated person of any age can become infected. Vaccination is a preventive measure; it does not treat existing polio.

| Destination or route | Requirement to check | Who it applies to | Timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pakistan / Afghanistan | India’s June 2024 advisory lists both; covered outbound travellers need OPV/IPV documentation. | Indian residents and NRIs travelling from India; separate return-entry provisions apply. | At least four weeks before departure under that advisory. |
| Nigeria | Also listed in India’s June 2024 advisory; check the accepted vaccine and certificate. | Covered travellers between India and Nigeria. | Check outbound timing and return documentation. |
| Saudi Arabia — Hajj | Saudi 2026 polio entry rules are country-specific. Separately, Haj Committee of India 2026 guidelines require OPV for its selected pilgrims. | Saudi-listed arrivals; Indian Haj Committee pilgrims under its arrangements. | Haj Committee: six weeks before journey. Confirm the current season’s instructions. |
| Saudi Arabia — Umrah | The 2026 document lists specified arrival countries for polio vaccination. India is not on its polio lists. | Arrivals from listed countries; assess recent travel and the operator’s instructions. | For specified arrivals, Saudi guidance recommends IPV within 12 months and at least four weeks before arrival. |
| Other affected countries | Indian advisory lists and destination rules may differ. WHO recommendations also address departures from affected states. | Depends on country category, residence and length of stay. | Confirm with official authorities; do not apply one rule to all of Africa. |

Confirm the brand, formulation, route and certificate acceptance. The photograph illustrates the catalogue entry; it does not guarantee that an IPV product or particular OPV formulation will be supplied.
CDC describes three IPV doses for an unvaccinated adult: dose one, dose two one to two months later, and dose three six to twelve months after dose two. A clinician assesses accelerated or incomplete courses.
A fully vaccinated adult at increased risk may receive a one-time IPV booster under CDC guidance. Travel documentation rules remain a separate consideration. CDC: adult travel vaccination · CDC: vaccine recommendations
IAP ACVIP’s 2025 schedule, published in 2026, includes birth OPV, IPV at 6, 10 and 14 weeks, and IPV boosters at 16–18 months and 4–6 years. Public-programme and catch-up schedules may differ.
A paediatrician should review actual doses. IAP ACVIP: recommended schedule 2025
WHO’s August 2026 recommendations address residents and visitors staying over four weeks in specified affected states. The recent-dose window is four weeks to twelve months before international departure, with separate urgent-travel advice. This is not a rule for every holiday.
Indian and Saudi rules have their own scope. Confirm which applies to your outward and return journey, especially if dates change. WHO: August 2026 temporary recommendations
An International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP), or yellow card, records vaccination in a recognised format. For official travel certification, contact your District Immunization Officer or an authorised centre. MoHFW: designated certificate issuers
Bring your passport, itinerary and records. Check your identity, vaccination date, product details and official authentication. Ask which document format is accepted; a clinic invoice may be insufficient.
Confirm the authorised issuer before booking. VacciHub’s catalogue does not establish authority to issue an ICVP; a separate authorised-centre appointment may be required. WHO: ICVP documentation
IPV can cause local pain or redness. Discuss allergies, illness, pregnancy and immune-suppressing medicines. A severe allergy to a previous IPV dose or its ingredients is a contraindication. CDC Yellow Book: precautions and reactions
OPV is live and needs particular caution with impaired immunity. India’s June 2024 advisory specifies IPV for immunocompromised inbound travellers. Discuss household circumstances with the clinician. Indian advisory: special precautions
Seek emergency help for breathing difficulty or facial/throat swelling after vaccination. Ask about observation, storage, expiry and follow-up. CDC: polio vaccine safety
Prices depend on the vaccine, provider and service arrangement. VacciHub’s current catalogue price is available in Book My Vaccine. This figure is loaded from the same admin-managed entry as the Travel tab; it is not an invented market average or an IPV price estimate.
Confirm consultation, visit and documentation charges. The April 2024 advisory provides free designated-centre OPV vaccination and certification for covered travellers; check current arrangements. Private home-service charges are separate. MoHFW: government-centre provision

VacciHub lists Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon/Gurugram, Faridabad, Meerut and Greater Noida. Availability depends on your PIN code, vaccine and assessment. Ask the team about other cities before booking.
It depends on your route and pilgrimage arrangements. Saudi Arabia’s 2026 polio rules target arrivals from specified countries; India is not on those polio lists. Indian Haj Committee pilgrims have separate OPV requirements. Ask your organiser to check your current season, transit history and required certificate before choosing a vaccine.
The Haj Committee of India’s 2026 guidelines require its selected pilgrims to receive oral polio vaccine six weeks before the Haj journey and record it on the Health and Training card. This is a specific Indian pilgrimage arrangement. Private pilgrims should confirm their operator’s instructions and the latest official guidance for their season.
The Saudi 1447H/2026 Umrah document applies polio requirements to arrivals from listed countries, rather than every visitor from India. Your itinerary and recent travel can affect the assessment. Check the current official Umrah document and your operator’s instructions; do not assume Hajj and Umrah paperwork or timing are identical.
Plan a travel consultation well before departure and share both outward and return dates. India’s June 2024 advisory requires OPV or IPV at least four weeks before departure for covered outbound travellers. Other journeys have different rules, including the Haj Committee’s six-week timing. Your clinician and issuing authority should confirm which date applies.
Indian residents and NRIs travelling from India to Pakistan fall within India’s listed-country polio advisory. Ask an authorised travel vaccination centre about the appropriate vaccine and certificate before departure. Keep the original document accessible for the outward and return journey, and check current immigration requirements rather than relying only on an airline reminder.
Yes. CDC guidance allows a one-time IPV booster for fully vaccinated adults with increased exposure risk. Adults without a complete primary series need assessment for missing doses instead. Bring any previous vaccination record to the appointment; a travel certificate rule can require a recently documented dose even when your routine vaccination history is complete.
The appropriate option depends on your health, vaccine history and the destination’s accepted vaccine. IPV is injected and contains inactivated virus; OPV is taken as oral drops and contains weakened live virus. Their roles differ. A clinician should select the formulation, especially if you or a household contact has an immune-system problem.
There is no single validity rule for every trip. Some travel requirements look for a dose within a defined recent period, and may impose a minimum interval before departure or arrival. Show your dated certificate to the relevant authority and check the applicable rule for each journey; a past booster does not automatically settle documentation requirements.
Children travelling abroad should have their polio vaccination record reviewed against their age and the applicable schedule. In India, the paediatrician should use current Indian guidance and arrange catch-up if needed. Bring the child’s immunisation card. An additional travel dose does not replace unfinished routine vaccination, and a parent should not independently shorten dose intervals.
Polio vaccines have established safety profiles, but the right product depends on the individual. IPV can cause soreness or redness where it is injected; serious allergy is uncommon but possible. OPV has particular considerations because it is a live vaccine. Discuss previous reactions and immune conditions with the clinician before the appointment.
Do not assume so. A clinic receipt, invoice or ordinary vaccine record is different from the certificate required by a border authority. Ask which authorised centre must issue or endorse your document. VacciHub’s booking entry does not itself establish authority to issue an ICVP or guarantee acceptance by immigration or an embassy.
The price card on this page reads the current Travel Polio Vaccine entry from VacciHub’s admin catalogue. Open Book My Vaccine to review it before booking. Confirm the exact product, dose, home-visit fee and certificate arrangements with the team. A private service charge should not be confused with a government vaccination-centre charge.
