Premature Infants

🚨 Intussusception — Know the Signs: A very rare (estimated 1–2 per 100,000 vaccinated) but life-threatening bowel obstruction. Risk is highest in the 7 days after Dose 1. The strict age limits (first dose before 15 weeks) minimise this risk significantly. Go to emergency immediately if your baby shows: severe abdominal pain, drawing legs to tummy, bloody or jelly-like stool, persistent vomiting, extreme paleness or unresponsiveness. The benefit of vaccination (preventing ~1000 deaths per 100,000 infants) vastly outweighs this rare risk.
🦠 Viral shedding: Live vaccine virus may be shed in stool for 7–10 days after each dose. Practice good hand hygiene after changing diapers during this window — especially important if there are severely immunocompromised household members.
