Shingrix is GSK’s non-live, recombinant, adjuvanted shingles vaccine. It helps prevent herpes zoster and related long-term nerve pain, called postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). It is a preventive vaccine, not a treatment for an active shingles rash, and is not a substitute for the chickenpox vaccine.

Adults aged 50 years and older should discuss shingles vaccination with their clinician. The Indian prescribing information describes two 0.5 mL intramuscular doses, normally two months apart, with flexibility for the second dose between two and six months. The varicella-zoster virus can stay inactive after chickenpox and reactivate later as shingles. A painful, blistering rash often appears on one side of the body. Ageing and reduced immune protection can increase risk. Living in a particular Delhi NCR neighbourhood does not by itself determine your medical risk.

PHN is nerve pain that continues after the shingles rash has healed. It can affect sleep and everyday activities. Vaccination helps reduce shingles and its complications but does not guarantee that a person will never develop the disease.
Pain, tingling or itching can come before a one-sided rash. A new blistering rash deserves prompt medical advice. A rash near the eye needs urgent assessment because vision can be affected. Do not use a vaccine booking as a substitute for treatment of an active episode.

A past episode does not automatically remove the potential benefit of vaccination. A clinician should review recovery and eligibility; Shingrix should not be given during an acute shingles episode.
